concentrationLeading a busy life can make you susceptible to distractions. Distractions are all around us, like ringing phones, flashing lights, and noise everywhere. No wonder we are finding it more difficult to concentrate and focus on the task at hand.

Furthermore, today’s society demands more from us so we are pulled left, right, and center, which can further knock us out of focus. But how can we manage to ever get anything done or to understand anything if we are constantly struggling to maintain focus?

The good news is that there are simple tips you can put into practice every day to improve your focus. Improving your focus and concentration can go a long way. You will find that you are taking in more information, as well as getting more tasks done properly with fewer errors.

Below you will find five simple tips that can go a long way in improving your focus and concentration.

5 tips to improve concentration

Stop multitasking

You may think that you are getting a lot done, but in actuality, you are probably getting less done with greater errors, too. Instead, focus on one task at a time. You may think you’re taking longer to complete all your tasks, but it will pay off much more when everything you need to get done is completed with greater proficiency.

Use short phrases

Using a simple phrase can prompt you to get back into gear and refocus. Stopping what you are doing and saying to yourself, “Be in the now” can instantly get you back on track.

When you first start, you may have to repeat the phrase several times a day. But the more you learn not to become distracted, the less you will have to remind yourself.

Schedule “worry time”

A lot of times, our minds distract us because they are filled with worry. Try scheduling some “worry time” where you solely focus on what is worrying you for five to 10 minutes. Once your timer is up, you should be able to set aside outside your worries and focus back on the task at hand.

Change your environment

You want to ensure you are working in a comfortable environment, but not too comfy or else it will promote sleep. Ensure the room you are in is well lit and at a comfortable temperature. Also, try sitting upright with good posture as much as possible, as being slouched over causes tiredness as well.

Look at who is speaking to you

Making direct eye contact with the person whom you are speaking with can help you concentrate better. Speaking to someone where there are distractions like mirrors and other reflections can steer your attention elsewhere.

Furthermore, don’t be afraid to ask a person to repeat themselves. And when you hear new information, like a new person’s name, for example, repeat it to yourself a few times, so it really sticks in your head.

By following these simple tips, you can have better success in focusing and concentrating.
