Six new articles were recently published in The Journals of Gerontology, Series A: Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences which unveiled more evidence to support that the Mediterranean diet is a powerful anti-aging diet.
Some of the studies showed that adhering to the Mediterranean diet contributed to better physical function and healthier aging overall. Other studies found that it could protect the body against oxidative stress and reduce inflammation. Both oxidative stress and inflammation contribute to aging.
Here are some quick tips to consider when starting the Mediterranean diet so that you can begin to protect your heart, liver, and slow down the aging process.
For starters, begin by reducing your dairy intake and red meat intake. You’ll also want to reduce your intake of processed meats and moderate your alcoholic beverages. Although some wine is okay, you still need to keep your drinking down to a minimum. As for dessert, try to replace processed and sugary treats with fruit. By trying to closely follow the Mediterranean diet, you can very well support your overall health and reap the benefits of a long, healthy life.
