Even better, you may have the essential ingredients in your cupboard.

1. Break out the honey

Rubbing honey on your skin sounds like a sticky disaster waiting to happen, but it’s a terrific natural way to improve your complexion and soften your skin. Natural beauty experts recommend washing your face with honey because of its antimicrobial, antibacterial and skin-softening properties.

Look for raw honey with no added ingredients or flavorings. You can also try mixing honey with another food that’s great for your skin; strawberries, for example, are excellent and aromatic! They contain the antioxidant vitamin C.

2. Rub on some coconut oil

You’ve probably read about the health benefits of eating and cooking with coconut oil, but did you know that it’s also great for the outside of your body? It makes an excellent moisturizer, and one that’s great for even sensitive skin – many parents swear by it for diaper rashes, for example.

Research suggests that rubbing coconut oil onto the skin twice daily can improve its moisture. Try it as a natural treatment for chapped lips, and dry knees and elbows. You can also help treat dandruff with coconut oil rubbed into the scalp.

3. Nourish your hair with avocado

Summer’s heat may be doing a number on your hair, and family barbecues and picnics outdoors aren’t helping matters. Put some moisture back in your strands with an avocado mask. The fruit’s high content of fatty acids is great for putting some life back into your hair, smoothing things out and encouraging regrowth. You can mix it with another ingredient like honey or banana, or just stick with avocado alone.

4. Exfoliate with a sugar scrub

You can drop a twenty to buy a sugar scrub at the mall or drugstore, or you can make your own at home for a fraction of the cost. Mix the sugar with a moisturizing ingredient of your choice – for example coconut oil or olive oil – and add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil.
