Why You Should Get Your Hearing Tested

hearing testGetting a hearing test is equally as important as getting a physical examination, vision test, or seeing the dentist. Having your hearing checked spans much further than just determining your ability to hear or not. In fact, checking your hearing can actually reveal much more about your overall health.

This is because our ability to hear is linked to many other areas of our health. For example, hearing loss has been linked with a higher risk of depression. Identifying hearing loss early on allows for early interventions to reduce the risk of depression.

Other large studies have found that hearing loss is linked with heart disease — 75 percent of those over the age of 70 who had heart disease also had hearing loss. Alternative studies linked hearing loss with cognitive abilities such as thinking skills and a risk of dementia.

As you can see, having your hearing checked can provide valuable insight into your overall health. If you’re skipping out on this health test, you could be in the dark about your health.

There are several different causes of hearing loss with many of them having effective treatments available to improve hearing. By going without having your hearing checked, not only are you putting yourself at risk to have your hearing worsen, but you could cause irreversible damage that can trigger the alternative health problems listed above.

Don’t wait until you’re struggling to hear to have yourself checked out. Get tested sooner rather than later to not only protect your hearing but your overall health.
