Unfortunately, summer can’t last forever, which means the weather is getting colder – and the skin is getting dry. Unlike the healthy glow you enjoy in the summertime, the fall season can leave your skin dull.
Sure, you can spend money on cleansers, moisturizers, and other products that promise to make you look 10 years younger, but over here at Bel Marra, we like to take the natural route instead.
Below you will find natural ways to maintain that healthy glow through the fall and even winter.
Tips to achieve smooth, nourished skin in the fall
Toss harsh products: Products that contain toxic retinols and glycolic acids aren’t doing your skin any favor. In fact, they do more damage than good to your skin. If you have products with these ingredients, give them the boot.
Wash your face: This may seem obvious, but it’s still important to mention. Washing your face at night helps remove free radicals that have accumulated throughout the day, including smog and dirt.
Avoid parabens: Products that contain parabens can cause breakouts and actually irritate the skin. Look for paraben-free products to use on your delicate face.
Eat right: What you eat can show up on your skin. Eating a diet high in antioxidants and vitamins will translate into a better complexion. Stock up on fresh vegetables and fish. Stay well hydrated to help your body flush out toxins.
Make a rebalancing mask: With products commonly found in your kitchen, you can easily make a mask that will help rebalance your skin. All you need is ½ banana, ¼ cup of oatmeal, and a teaspoon of honey. Combine these ingredients together and apply to your face. Allow it to set for 15 minutes, then remove it with a clean washcloth and rinse your face.
Pump up the circulation: A steady flow of blood helps your skin look refreshed, and so continuing your workouts through the fall can help you maintain a natural glow. It’s even more important to exercise in the colder months because low temperatures constrict blood vessels, hindering the circulation.
Get a bit sour: Lemons are well known to provide health benefits. Lemon juice applied to your face can help remove dead cells and reduce dark spots. Leave it on for at least 10 minutes, then rinse it off with lukewarm water. For added moisture, follow up by rubbing cucumber slices on your face.
Get sweet: You can apply raw honey directly on the skin, allow it to dry, and rinse it off for another easy facial option. The honey will bring moisture to the skin, making it look fresh.
These are just some ways to keep your skin glowing during the fall time, but there are hundreds more. Another important factor many people neglect when it gets colder is sunscreen. Just because it’s not as hot outside doesn’t mean that the sun’s harmful rays stop working. It’s still important that you find a gentle sunscreen to apply regularly to your face to protect your skin from premature aging.
