The Healthy Truth Top natural makeup and hair productsDear Friends,

You may recall that a few posts back I discussed top health trends in 2017. One of those trends was going more natural when it comes to makeup. You may have noticed that many celebrities are baring it all by taking photos of themselves without any makeup, and there was even a movement on Instagram where girls all over the world were hashtagging their makeup-free faces. But for those of us who can’t bear the thought of leaving our homes without some sort of makeup, there are, in fact, plenty of natural options available.

People wear makeup for many different reasons, whether it is to dress up for an occasion, cover up lines and spots on their skin, or even as a confidence booster. Believe it or not, makeup has been around for centuries! In its early days, cosmetics were often used for religious ceremonies, to enhance beauty, and even to promote good health. Makeup also served a practical function such as warding off the sun or identifying members of different social classes.

The Egyptians were most renowned for using scented oils to soften their skin and hair as well as mask body odor. Ancient Chinese would stain their fingernails to establish their place in the class system.

Since those days, cosmetics have come a long way, and following the general tendency towards a more natural lifestyle, there are more and more options available on the market that are natural and safer to use. Whether you have sensitive skin or just want to be conscious about what you use on your body, there are brands that have eliminated harsh toxins and other chemicals. Below you will find a list of some of those natural cosmetics you can try if you’re making the switch to go more natural.

Top natural and organic cosmetics

Dr. Hauschka: Dr. Hauschka has developed an organic cosmetic line without compromising on texture, color, or quality. The line itself has everything you need to enhance your looks, including mascara, blush, eyeliners, and lipsticks.

100% Pure: With a name like 100% Pure, you wouldn’t expect anything artificial from this cosmetic line. 100% Pure uses plant-based ingredients including blueberries, yerba matte, and pomegranates. The American brand covers both skincare and makeup, so you can really give your skin and appearance the natural treatment.

Pacifica: This long-running brand uses vegan, cruelty-free ingredients and testing. From makeup and perfume to body creams and face cleansers, Pacifica has you covered for all your beauty needs.
Sephora – natural & organic range: This beauty company not only sells other brands but has its own too—it has unveiled a natural and organic collection, high in quality and safe on the wallet. With Sephora being one of the largest beauty brands, you really wouldn’t expect anything less.

Briogeo: If you’re looking to give your hair some TLC, then Briogeo is your brand. The company uses a plant-based formula to help your hair look its best. Their products aim to repair damage, create volume, and enhance curls by combining science and natural formulas. I must add I am currently using their hair repair mask along with leave-in conditioner and have so far been enjoying amazing results!

These are just some of the brands that are working to make your skin and hair beautiful naturally. There are many more to discover as the beauty industry is gradually shifting to remove harsh chemicals from their products and substitute them with more natural ingredients. Our skin is the largest organ in our body, so it’s important that whatever we use it doesn’t make us sick. So, whether you use beauty products every day or simply want to stay on the safe side, read the labels carefully and choose natural products whenever possible.
Until next week,

Emily Lunardo
