eblast sex and healthYou may not realize it, but having an active sex life helps boost your health. In fact, research has found that having a regular sex life can help ward off some pretty serious health conditions along with milder ones.

One study in particular uncovered that men who had sex twice a week were less likely to suffer from heart-related conditions like stroke or heart attack compared to men who only had sex once a month or less. Furthermore, regular sexual activity has been found to regulate hormones, which can ward off or slow down the progression of osteoporosis.

On the other hand, if you’re not having regular sex, you could be putting your health at risk. Here are three health problems associated with a low libido and infrequent sex.

Health problems associated with low libido

Blood pressure: A 2006 study found that participants who engaged in regular intercourse had lower blood pressure compared to those who had sex infrequently. This is because sex is a natural stress-reducer and stress is a large contributing factor to high blood pressure.

Colds: Want a natural way to ward off colds and flu? Have more sex. Orgasms have been found to boost the immune system, making it more effective at fighting off viruses and bacteria, which can trigger illness. Saliva samples taken from people who had frequent sex were found to be higher in antibodies.

The key here is to be having the right amount of sex. Participants who had sex twice a week were protected against colds, but those who engaged in sex more than twice a week actually had a higher risk of colds. This is believed to be because of the additional closeness with someone, which increases the risk of passing on germs.

Prostate cancer: Sexually active men have been found to have a reduced risk of prostate cancer. Research from Harvard found that men who ejaculate 21 times or more a month had a 33 percent reduced risk of prostate cancer – this was in comparison to men who only ejaculated four to seven times a month throughout their lives.

As you can see, being sexually active can work wonders on improving your health. So, if you’ve been struggling with a low libido or simply aren’t having as much sex as you want, you may want to find ways to improve this as a means of improving your health.
