Hair transplant recipients were rated as more successful and approachable compared to their balding counterparts.
Expert in age-related hair loss, Dr. Katy Burris, said, “This study further validates what we have known for some time; we know that most men feel more attractive when they have more hair, and it seems the observers in this study tended to agree.”
The study involved 122 adults who were asked to look at side by side pictures of 13 men. Seven of the pictured men had age-related hair loss but then underwent hair transplant procedures to reveal a before and after look. The other six men did not undergo hair transplant procedures and were used as comparison.
Participants were asked to rate the images by presuming the pictured man’s age, attractiveness, and level of success and approachability.
Men who underwent hair transplants scored significantly higher compared to their pre-transplant selves.
In 2014 alone, 11,000 men sought out hair transplant procedures making it the most popular cosmetic procedure among men.
The study reaffirms social attitudes towards hair and hair loss.
