Fattening and high calorie foods can cause weight gain if you can’t exercise enough to burn the extra calories. While a little indulgence isn’t the worst possible thing, there are a few high calories, sugar laden, and just flat out bad foods that should be avoided if keeping in good health is on your mind.
- Hamburgers with more than one patty.
Keep in mind, when it comes to portion control, that a double-meat burger is not exactly one portion. The American Heart Association reports that even a single-patty sandwich can easily exceed the recommended 3-oz serving of beef.
- French Fries
A low-fat, low salt way to do french fries hasn’t been invented yet, so don’t be fooled. Frying causes even healthy vegetables like potatoes to become very high-calorie. As per the USDA, the 28 g fat that is packed into large order of french fries isn’t going to do much for your waistline.
- Ice Cream Milk Shakes
According to the American Dental Association, the 62g sugar in a chocolate milk shake can raise your risk for tooth decay significantly. Never mind the staggering amount of calories found in one shake could put you close to your daily requirement without realizing it.
- Pork Ribs
If you add in fatty pork, not the mention the high salt content found in the sauce, this makes this particular fast food easily one of the worst, but possibly one of the most obvious, too. If you need to eat BBQ, make sure you eat the kind that trims off the extra fat, or BBQ’ed chicken (without the skin) is an option as well.
- Soda and Carbonated Drinks
As a rule of thumb, soda doesn’t have one iota of nutritional value. It is also laden with sugar. So between the caffeine and the blast of sugar, it can trigger a release of insulin within the body. For this reason, as well as the obvious wear and tear it can have on your teeth, it is best avoided.
With all the sugar, calories and added fat, these 5 foods are easily the worst fast food offenders. Not only are they hard on your waistline, but on your general health as well.
